EEO Public File Report

October 1, 2011

This report is being filed to comply with Federal Communications Commission Rules providing the following information for the period of  September 22, 2010 to September 21, 2011 for Stations KFMZ (AM) and KZBK (FM), Brookfield, Missouri.  According to Federal Communications Commission  EEO rules, this station employment unit is not subject to formal outreach and recruitment requirements as fewer than five full-time persons were employed during the period.

Supplemental Outreach Initiatives and Activities

A:  Best Broadcasting, Inc. participated in a scholarship program in conjunction with the International Broadcasters Idea Bank and SESAC which awarded a $7500.00 scholarship award to a college student attending a U.S. College or University who is seeking a degree in Broadcast-Related programs.  Some of the programs included degrees in Mass Media, Communication, Journalism, Advertising or Music.  

B:  Best Broadcasting, Inc. participates in the Missouri Broadcasters Association Scholarship Program.  Deserving students receive financial aid to assist them in attaining the training and expertise required to become valuable employees in Missouri's broadcasting industry. C: Best Broadcasting, Inc. conducted a review and assessment of our ongoing Internship program in May of 2011 with Brookfield High School Counselor, Cathy Carlson and Brookfield Area Career Center Counselor, Tonia Montgomery to discuss a variety of issues. Discussion included our cooperation regarding internships for BHS students, reviewed our overall employment needs and possible future areas of concern. We discussed the educational needs of communications students in general, and broadcasting in particular. We also discussed some of the Broadcasting trade school and area college programs which are available, and further solidified our cooperative relationship for the future, including plans to participate in BHS Career Fairs this winter and next spring. Representing Best Broadcasting, Inc. during this review and assessment was Jeff Elliott, KFMZ/KZBK Operations Manager.

D:  Best Broadcasting, Inc. made a presentation on "Careers in Broadcasting" in the fall of 2010 (10/24/10) to a group of approximately 15 middle school and high school students from the Jesus is Lord Academy in Brookfield.  During the course of the event, we discussed various broadcasting careers and answered questions about wages, educational requirements, working conditions and more. We also discussed ways to obtain media support for educational programs such as Smokebusters, and other Media Advocacy issues. Representing Best Broadcasting, Inc. was Jeff Elliott, Group Operations Manager.

E: Best Broadcasting, Inc. has an ongoing Internship program which allows area youth to actually work in a broadcast environment. During this reporting cycle, Caitlyn Troutman from Brookfield High School has been working as a paid intern in a variety of broadcast related functions. She was hired as a BHS Sophomore and is now a Junior. Caitlyn was referred to us by the BHS Counselor and is a student in the BHS Communications department. Her supervisors include Jeff Elliott, KFMZ/KZBK Operations Manager and Dale Palmer, KFMZ/KZBK General Manager.

F:  Best Broadcasting, Inc. has an ongoing program which allows area school students who are interested in the broadcast industry to "shadow" station personnel.  Each year we host several students from various schools throughout the listening area and give them a real life perspective of day-to-day operations in a radio station.

G:  Continued to air weekly announcements encouraging those who are interested in a broadcast related career to contact us.

H:  Continued to air weekly announcements encouraging the help of local organizations in referring qualified applicants to our stations.  These announcements inform organizations that wish to receive our job vacancy information to contact us.
