KFMZ/KZBK EEO Report


October 1, 2012

This report is being filed to comply with Federal Communications Commission Rules providing the following information for the period of September 22, 2011 to September 21, 2012 for Stations KFMZ (AM) and KZBK (FM), Brookfield, Missouri. According to Federal Communications Commission EEO rules, this station employment unit is not subject to formal outreach and recruitment requirements as fewer than five full-time persons were employed during the period.


Supplemental Outreach Initiatives and Activities
A: Best Broadcasting, Inc. participates in the Missouri Broadcasters Association Scholarship Deserving students receive financial aid to assist them in attaining the training and expertise required to become valuable employees in Missouri's broadcasting industry. B: Best Broadcasting, Inc. has an ongoing Internship program which allows area youth to actually work in a broadcast environment. During this reporting cycle, Caitlyn Troutman from Brookfield High School has been working as a paid intern in a variety of broadcast related functions. She was hired as a BHS Sophomore and is now a Senior. Caitlyn was referred to us by the BHS Counselor and is a student in the BHS Communications department. Her supervisors include Jeff Elliott, KFMZ/KZBK Operations Manager and Dale Palmer, KFMZ/KZBK General Manager.

C: Best Broadcasting, Inc. has an ongoing program which allows area school students who are interested in the broadcast industry to "shadow" station personnel. Each year we host several students from various schools throughout the listening area and give them a real life perspective of day-to-day operations in a radio station.

D: On 4/25/2012, KFMZ/KZBK Operations Manager Jeff Elliott meet with a group of Kirksville Middle School Students regarding careers in broadcasting. Part of the discussion centered about opportunities available, training requirements, broadcast programs and other aspects of a broadcasting career.

E: On 5/11/2012, KFMZ/KZBK hosted four classes from the Brookfield R-3 schools, totaling 80 plus students. Discussion centered around opportunities available, training requirements, broadcast programs and other aspects of a broadcasting career. In addition, a tour of station facilities was provided along with equipment demonstrations and a brief question and answer session. KFMZ/KZBK Operations Manager Jeff Elliott conducted the majority of the sessions with assistance by KFMZ/KZBK General Manager Dale Palmer.

E: Continued to air weekly announcements encouraging those who are interested in a broadcast related career to contact us.

F: Continued to air weekly announcements encouraging the help of local organizations in referring qualified applicants to our stations. These announcements inform organizations that wish to receive our job vacancy information to contact us.
